About us
Radio Católica Carisma 103.1 FM · Sound and Content of Life.
Radio Católica Carisma 103.1 FM is a “different” station that, under the constant action of the Holy Spirit, works to renew and strengthen the faith of every man and woman baptized in the Catholic Church.
The station’s evangelizing work was born as a direct response to the missionary mandate of Jesus Christ: “…Go into all the world and proclaim the Good News to the whole creation” (Mk 16:15).
This service of proclamation through the airwaves and digital media is marked by a firm commitment to the New Evangelization: new in its fervor, new in its methods and new in its expression, with the fundamental purpose that all the baptized “know the Truth, and the Truth will set them free” (Jn 8:32).
To educate in the faith, communicating and proclaiming the Good News of the living and risen Jesus Christ in the light of the experience of the New Pentecost in every area of society (family, work, community, etc.), interpreting the signs of the times in the light of the Word of God and in strict fidelity to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church.
Under the action of the Holy Spirit, to transform the hearts of God’s people wherever our frequency and digital platforms reach, bringing the faith into the culture while recognizing in it all the values that enrich the life of faith.

- 1997The Missionary Seed
This evangelizing project was started by a group of committed lay people from La Mansión Catholic Evangelization Center in Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Guided by prayer and the spiritual accompaniment of Fr. Cris Geraets, O.P. (†), and moved by the need to evangelize through the mass media, they launched the radio program “New Heavens, New Earth” in June 1997. Given the warm reception and the testimonies of listeners, the team formed a limited liability company (S.R.L.) to bid for commercial frequencies from the Telecommunications Superintendency in September of that year. However, the high cost of the licenses made that option unfeasible.
- 2003Legal Constitution and Cultural License
The company was dissolved and the "Asociación Carisma" was founded as a non-profit organization, obtaining its legal status No. 083/2003 on March 7, 2003. With it, a cultural license was requested under Article 41 of the Telecommunications Law. On December 26, 2003, the Presidency of the Republic issued Supreme Resolution No. 222221/2003, authorizing operations in the city of Montero due to the saturation of frequencies in the capital.
- 2004Arrival in Montero and First Broadcasts
The team moved to Montero and presented the project to Our Lady of Mercy Parish, where it was welcomed by Fr. Juan Kukla, OFM Conv., and the parish council. In March 2004 the installation of equipment bought with gifts from La Mansión benefactors began. On August 2, 2004, Radio Católica Carisma officially went on the air from its first temporary location on Arenales Street, under the direction of its founder Pedro Nelson Méndez (†).
- 2006The Founder’s Passing
After the painful death of Pedro Nelson Méndez in 2006, his wife, Mrs. Mavel Justiniano de Méndez, took over as general director of the station, ensuring the continuity of the ministry with the support of lay collaborators.
- 2009Move to the City Center
The station moved its studios and transmission tower to downtown Montero, improving reception in the city.
- 2015New Headquarters
The station moved to its current location on the first floor overlooking the Main Square of Montero (Calle Litoral).
- 2019A New Generation
Samuel Mendez, the founder’s son, became general director of the station to take on the challenges of technological modernization.
- 2022Antenna Relocation
In compliance with radio spectrum regulations, the tower and transmitting antenna were relocated to parish grounds in the Villa Cochabamba neighborhood.
- 2023International Partnership with Canção Nova
A fraternal bond was formalized with the Canção Nova International Catholic Community (Brazil), founded by Msgr. Jonas Abib (†). This allowed the station to air its music legally and improve its technical work.
- 2024Parish Link
A wireless link was set up with St. Joseph of La Floresta Parish to broadcast Holy Mass live from the church.
- 2026Multiplatform Digital Transformation
Launch of video programs streamed on social media, beginning the transition from a radio-only model to a Catholic audiovisual media house.
Pedro “Nelson” Méndez Callaú
Pedro Méndez Callaú, affectionately known as “Nelson” (the name his mother called him), was the eldest of five children. He grew up in a home of deep discipline and always left the testimony of his life: “My Father is God”.

At 19 he went to La Mansión for the first time. Four months later he met Mavel Justiniano at a prayer group in the chapel and, after three years of courtship, they were married. Passionate about the guitar, songwriting and singing, he devoted his talent to musical evangelization, experiencing how the Holy Spirit worked through praise.

- Agua Viva Ministry: Co-founder, with Fr. Lucas Casaert, O.M.I., of the well-known Agua Viva music ministry in Santa Cruz, which took the faith to several countries.
- Worship Leader: He led praise in groups such as Taller de Jesús, Canto Nuevo, Génesis, Estrella del Oriente, Ángelus and Familia Celestial.
- Founder of Radio Carisma: He conceived and directed Radio Católica Carisma 103.1 FM, where he worked as a host and radio producer.
- Missionary of the Faith: He promoted spiritual formation workshops, retreats and Catholic music gatherings in neighborhoods and communities in Bolivia and abroad.
Pedro Nelson Méndez wrote about 30 songs that are part of the Catholic songbook in Bolivia and abroad. Among his works:

He collaborated with the group Misión from La Paz, worked with renowned international singer-songwriters such as Luis Enrique Ascoy (Peru) and Daniel Poli (Argentina), and shared the stage with figures like Martín Valverde, Ziza and Eugenio Jorge (Brazil).

Every gift keeps the station on the air
This is the progress for the month: how much of the station’s fixed costs (transmission, utilities, staff and rent) the Carisma Sowers have already covered. When we reach 100 %, the month is sown.
The current month fills up with the gifts that arrive day by day.
Because of its legal nature (a non-profit association) and the rules of the Cultural License granted by the ATT, Radio Católica Carisma does not air advertising or commercial spots of any kind.
Its financial and operational support rests entirely on God’s providence, through:
Carisma Sowers. A network of committed benefactors who give monthly to cover operating costs, technical maintenance and the growth of the station.
Donations and Offerings. Voluntary contributions from listeners and Catholic communities.
As a station with a Cultural License and no advertising or commercial spots, this evangelizing work is sustained by divine providence and the generosity of the faithful.
What is a Carisma Sower?
A committed person who gives a monthly financial contribution to keep the station running and bring the Word of God to the sick, the elderly and the families of our region.
You can sign up at the Radio Católica Carisma offices on Calle Litoral, north side of the main square in the city of Montero.
You can also make a voluntary donation by bank transfer, bank deposit or QR code.
